Bath Taxi Alternatives to Uber in 2022

For the longest time, residents of Somerset have complained about the state of taxis in Bath, finding it difficult to hail a cab when needed.

For the longest time, residents of Somerset have complained about the state of taxis in Bath, finding it difficult to hail a cab when needed.

It was expected that Uber would provide a real transport solution when they entered the town of Bath in the UK a few years ago, but that wasn't the case and the ability to get a taxi in Bath has simply become a more fragmented task when you need a ride.

On the hunt for a more effective taxi service in Bath and alternatives to the traditional cab service, here are some options to highlight the recent and new services entering the beautiful city of Bath, Somerset.

Ola

The Indian owned company launched into Bath in 2018 with great hope, but have since received some unfortunate reviews and comments on TripAdvisor regarding service, ability to install the app, and add payment details. Though the taxi comparison website Rideguru, states they have luxury sedans available in the area.

Hannk

The website offers to get you from A to B and anywhere in between all on your phone. However this worldwide app is not very effective in Bath, UK at least yet. Possibly interesting that they quote Las Vegas on their Bath website page?

Uber

A popular taxi app across the world, however it has not gained the same traction in Bath as other areas. It seems to work best in larger cities and towns. The Bath Chronicle summarised this well in a pre-pandemic article, "And in Bath, unlike some other cities, there are not many Uber Taxis and they can be costly."

Techxi

A great taxi app for those who need larger vehicles in Bath, according to their website, playing to the luxury end of the cab market. TripAdvisor Bristol reviews haven't been great with only one star, citing delays and unreliability.

Swoop

Launching late Summer 2022, the new taxi app says it will provide reliable taxis in Bath. Ordering via the app will provide access to hundreds of local cabs, with the customer paying the driver directly instead of via the app. This small detail keeps them in full control and allows the driver to be paid instantly. It's a positive start for this service which is proving popular with taxi drivers for its flexibility and transparency.

Summing up the local situation well, local online newspaper Somersetlive.co.uk wrote an article in November 2021 questioning the need for a decent taxi service in Bath, following local resident complaints.

Could a new operator sort out the local issues? It would seem that Swoop Taxis has charged into Bath with ideas to remedy this problem, addressing an ongoing issue in a town with multiple operators and lots of independent taxi outfits.

Whether you're looking for a taxi ride around town or just want to save some money on your ride, one of these taxi apps might provide an Uber alternative you can try in Bath.
